1855 1861 Springfield Civil War Bayonet and Scabbard is an 1855/1861 Model Springfield Rifle Bayonet and scabbard. This beautiful carbon steel antique reproduction is made to fit various US manufactured .58 muskets and the 50-70 Springfield Trapdoor Rifles prior to 1873. This particular type of socket bayonet was orginally manufacturerd or modified from the period of 1855 to about 1872 and was the forerunner to the US Model 1873 Trapdoor Springfield 45-70 series bayonets. The Springfield Rifled Musket is generally associated with the Union Army. The matching bayonet scabbard features authentic hand-hammered copper rivets, brass frog, heavy stiched black leather and measures 18 inches long, while the Springfield Bayonet itself measures 21 inches long overall with 18 inch blade, 3 inch socket length, and ~.79 inch internal muzzle ring diameter. Civil war bayonet and scabbard weigh just over 1lb. The model 1855/1861 Springfield bayonet was arguably the most commonly used bayonet during the Civil War and a must have for Civil War Reenactors and collectors.
